This severely compromises the presentation of the artwork, as there is a fold running right through every single image, splitting every image across two signature sheets. Such a pleasure to see some of Tove Jansson's Hobbit illustrations. I've been looking for a copy of the book for years without success.
Brian Sibley's introduction is very informative and insightful -- and I learned why we're not likely to see this artwork in an English edition of The Hobbit: it comes down to Tove's taking liberties with the interpretation of Gollum, depicting him as looming Moomin creator Tove Jansson celebrated with retrospective at Dulwich Picture Gallery.
